The great Hungarian conductor Iván Fischer will open the evening with his celebrated Budapest orchestra with the "Romanian Folk Dances" by his compatriot Béla Bartók, which this time will have a particularly authentic introduction. For the orchestra's folk music ensemble plays the original dances, which Bartók has artistically arranged. Afterwards Iván Fischer will dedicate himself to the most complete of all "unfinished" works, the 7th Symphony by Franz Schubert, which was first performed almost forty years after the composer's death and has been one of the crown jewels of Western music ever since. After the intermission, Antonín Dvořáks 8th Symphony follows, a piece full of Bohemian musical mood and moving melancholy. In contrast to Bartók, the Czech master never quoted folklore directly, but recreated it with great love. As he himself wrote, "a work different from my other symphonies, with individual thoughts worked out in a new way."
