Dimitri Kitajenko, one of today's great Russian conductors, returns to Salzburg with the top-class Konzerthausorchester Berlin and an already very successful compatriot, the young cellist Anastasia Kobekina.  She interprets the 1st Cello Concerto by Camille Saint- Saëns, whose music beautifully combines French classicism and romantic emotion. Before that, a rarely performed program symphony by Tchaikovsky after Lord Byron's "Manfred", a dramatic painting that leads to the heights and depths of human existence. Aram Khachaturian, Armenian and highly decorated Soviet composer, was a master of sparkling ballet music, as his suites from the dance theatre of the slave revolt of Spartacus in ancient Rome prove in every ravishing bar.
