Emmanuel Tjeknavorian has Armenian roots, but is a true Viennese and one of the most successful young violin virtuosos of today. He presents a favorite piece from the heyday of Romanticism, namely "the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto," that in E minor which has been delighting the hearts of audiences since 1844 with its fine lyricism, compelling melodicism and symphonic breath. The charismatic violinist will be joined by Ivor Bolton, unforgettable in Salzburg, and the tradition-steeped Sinfonieorchester Basel, of which the British maestro is now principal conductor.
This is followed by Beethoven's great ballet music "The Creatures of Prometheus." The exact plot has not been handed down. This imposing work will be heard this time in a new version of the text, which will be recited by one of the great Austrian actors of our time, Peter Simonischek. According to tradition, Prometheus, the hero of fire and friend of mankind who had been expelled from Olympus, animated two clay statues with his torch at the Hofburg Theater in Vienna in 1801, fled to earth in a storm, experienced a "concert of the gods" instead of a reconciliation, was visited by the three Graces and the Muses, and was finally released from his suffering by the Muse of Tragedy with a dagger.
