HECTOR BERLIOZ
Symphonie fantastique, op. 14

Orchestre National de Lille
Alexandre Bloch, conductor
Nemanja Radulović, violin

The truly fantastic symphony of the French visionary of the Romantic era, Hector Berlioz inspires the audience again and again. It is a big bang of 19th century modernism. To this day, the "Scenes from the Life of an Artist" have remained topical, in their tonal radicalism as well as in their opulent richness of color and memorable melodicism. The Orchestre National de Lille is one of France's leading orchestras and speaks Berlioz's native language. This is also true of the orchestra's young music director, Alexandre Bloch, who has had a stellar career over the past ten years. Before the intermission, the world-class Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulović devotes himself to the virtuoso Violin Concerto by Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowsky, a work whose grandiose blend of melancholy-toned "Russian soul" and dancing vitality challenges the soloist as much as the orchestra - and brings pure joy to the audience.
