Start the new year with highlights of classical music. The Symphony Orchestra Vorarlberg, conducted by the young British conductor Leo McFall, will give its New Year's Concert Debut at the Great Festival hall. As a soloist, the 29-year-old Kian Soltani, who has already made a name for himself as an excellent cellist and performs with renowned orchestras, will be performing. The native of Bregenz with Iranian roots plays Haydn's 1st Cello Concerto from 1761, a time when hardly any music was composed for the cello. Only Haydn's genius at the time probably recognized the value of this beautiful instrument and composed a late baroque concerto for it with a small instrumentation. In the second part of the New Year's Concert, Ludwig van Beethoven's great nature-loving 6th Symphony - the Pastoral - is heard. With this work he created a monument to the wonders of nature and country life. Composed and premiered in Vienna around 1808, he laid - albeit unconsciously - the foundation for a new musical language with his 6th Symphony.
