The brilliant Polish pianist Rafał Blechacz is featured as soloist in Franz Liszt's virtuosic 2nd Piano Concerto, which is actually a symphonic poem for piano and orchestra. The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern will perform with the internationally acclaimed piano wizard and Chopin Prize winner under the baton of its Finnish-born principal conductor Pietari Inkinen, who will be the next musical director of Wagner's "Ring of the Nibelung" in Bayreuth, as part of a sonorous and romantic program. Jean Sibelius created the secret anthem of his country and a grandiose tone painting with his magnificent poem "Finlandia". Antonín Dvořák's 8th Symphony used to be often called "English" because of its first edition by the London publisher Novello and because of the triumph the composer had with it in London immediately after its Prague premiere in April 1890. However, it should much rather be called "Czech," for it is full of the wondrously recreated magic of Bohemian folk music. It reflects the beauty of the landscape and the intoxicating energy of Slavic dances.
