Events & Dialogue

The Georg Trakl Birthplace offers a diverse program of events. Academic conferences and lectures, artist talks, book presentations, and panel discussions provide insights into current research trends, introduce new interpretations and contexts, and create opportunities for shared discussion about literature.

The events are open to the public.

Thu, June 11, 2026, 7.00 pm: REINVENTING THE MUSEUM

Lecture and discussion with Sylvia Necker (LWL Prussian Museum, Minden)
The historian and exhibition curator offers insights into her bold and creative museum work. She explores the question of to what extent the venerable institution of the museum can serve as a stage for contemporary historical storytelling—and even be fun.
In cooperation with the Stefan Zweig House – Stefan Zweig Center at the University of Salzburg.

Tue, November 3, 2026, 7.00 pm: POEMS FROM THE WAR

Georg Trakl Translation Discussion with Raoul Precht (Luxembourg). Presentation of the anthology Sulle rovine d’Europa (2024) and a discussion on the challenges of translating German- and French-language poetry from World War I, including poems by Trakl.
In collaboration with the seminar Die Sprachen des Expressionismus at the University of Salzburg.

Thu, December 3, 2026, 5.15. pm: LITERATURE & MATERIALITY

Lecture and Discussion with Heike Gfrereis (DLA Marbach)
The multi-award-winning curator, literary scholar, and expert on literature in public spaces will discuss the material aspects of literature in relation to exhibition practice and literary education.
In collaboration with the lecture series Materielle Kultur at the University of Salzburg.

February, 2–5, 2027: TRAKLS ROOMS

International Conference at the University of Innsbruck
To mark the 140th anniversary of the poet’s birth, the Brenner Archive Research Institute is hosting a conference on the spatial dimension 
of Trakl’s texts. Organized by leading figures in Trakl research from Innsbruck, Vienna, and Zurich, the conference will spend one day at the Trakl Museum in Salzburg and will also offer a program open to the interested public.

Advisory Board & Research Network

The International Trakl Forum brings together renowned figures from the fields of research, the arts, cultural institutions, and public administration. As an advisory board, it guides the work of the research and memorial center at Georg Trakl’s birthplace, fosters connections among current Trakl scholars, supports academic and literary projects and publications, and promotes the contemporary reception of Trakl’s work in the arts.

The chair is held by Prof. Emeritus Dr. Johann Holzner (University of Innsbruck).
