The creatures of Prometheus are the human beings for whose protection the mythical hero of fire has incurred the wrath of the Olympian gods.
The luminous and dramatically pulsating music of Ludwig van Beethoven's great ballet has survived, but not the exact plot. And so this time, the imposing work is performed
in a modern text version, which will be recited by one of the great Austrian actors of our time, Peter Simonischek.
According to reports and headings, Prometheus animated two clay statues with his torch in the Hofburg Theater in Vienna in 1801, fled to earth in a stampede, experienced a "concert of the gods" instead of a reconciliation
Instead he experienced a "concert of the gods," was visited by the three Graces and the Muses, and was finally released from his suffering by the Muse of Tragedy with a dagger.
This piece features the tradition-steeped Sinfonieorchester Basel and Ivor Bolton, the orchestra's unforgettable principal conductor in Salzburg. The stirring music of Franz Schubert
with its youthful, melodious, still quite classical 2nd Symphony forms a beautiful contrast to Beethoven's heroic allegory.
