Julia Fischer plays Prokofiev

The German star violinist Julia Fischer leads us into the motoric yet lyrical sound world of the young Sergei Prokofiev with his first violin concerto. And at the end Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov enchants with the fairy tale world of the oriental princess Scheherazade, who tells of her life in 1001 nights in seductive sound splendour and wins it.

Emmanuel Krivine Conductor (replaces Emmanuel Krivine)
Julia Fischer Violin

The French elite orchestra is conducted by Emmanuel Krivine, the famous maestro from Grenoble with a Polish mother, a Russian father and an adopted home in France, who is rare to see in Salzburg. French and Russian can be found in the programme. Claude Debussy transformed the "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" into an iridescently dreamlike world of sounds which, despite the composer's protest, can be described as pure musical impressionism. The German star violinist Julia Fischer then leads us into the motoric yet lyrical sound world of the young Sergei Prokofiev with his first violin concerto. And at the end Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov enchants with the fairy tale world of the oriental princess Scheherazade, who tells of her life in 1001 nights in seductive sound splendour and wins it.
