The Ukrainian Oksana Lyniv is one of the most successful conductors of our time. She was head of the Graz Opera for three years, has made a career for herself in the great opera houses of Europe, and is to be the first woman to conduct a festival premiere in Bayreuth in 2021. In Salzburg, she can now be heard on the podium of the Tiroler Symphonieorchester, with Antonín Dvořák's 8th Symphony, in which the highest harmonic artistry is happily combined with romantic emotion and Bohemian musical whimsy. A work by the great friend and mentor of the Czech master, Johannes Brahms, matches this. Although, according to recent findings, the "Haydn Variations" have nothing to do with Joseph Haydn, a beautiful old pilgrimage song is also ideally suited to a rousing series of melodic transformations. In between, Denis Kozhukhin, a young Russian pianist of world renown, will perform. He will play Franz Liszt's 1st Piano Concerto - brilliant virtuosity embedded in the form of a symphonic tone poem. For Liszt, "music was the universal language of humanity," which needs to be said again and again, especially in times like these.
