As part of the Salzburg Culture Days, Salzburg Cathedral regularly becomes a performance venue for unusual musical masses. They are rarely on the program in classical concerts, and mass compositions are not suitable for liturgical use because of their length. Under the direction of new cathedral conductor Andrea Fournier, Salzburg Cathedral will be the setting for Joseph Haydn's Missa in B-flat major for solos, choir and orchestra from 1802, one of the six major mass compositions he composed on behalf of Prince Esterházy and with which - along with The Creation and The Seasons - Haydn's vocal works found a crowning conclusion.
