Spring Symphony

In April, spring can no longer be overlooked, and Robert Schumann's first symphony, which not only bears this joyful season in its title, but also conveys it in sound, is a perfect match. A genius is hopefully paving its way here.

"Spring Symphony"

Mozarteumorchester Salzburg
Petr Popelka, conductor
Ferdinand Steiner, clarinet

Ferdinand Steiner is a true sound magician on the clarinet. This time he plays the brilliant Concerto by Carl Maria von Weber, a stirring piece on the threshold of the Classical and Romantic periods, which demands everything of the soloist in terms of virtuosity, bravura and poetry that his instrument can offer. The Mozarteumorchester Salzburg performs under the direction of the Czech conductor and composer Petr Popelka. At the beginning of this "spring concert" is Franz Schubert's 4th Symphony. It is not as "tragic" as its epithet, but belongs to those works in which the young man sought his very own symphonic path with surprising harmonic ideas and already unmistakable melodicism, after Haydn and Mozart and alongside Beethoven. In April, spring can no longer be overlooked, and Robert Schumann's first symphony, which not only bears this joyful season in its title, but also conveys it in sound, is a perfect match. A genius is hopefully paving its way here. Schumann's motto, however, is also a springtime message as the days grow longer and the sun begins to warm: "Sending light into the depths of the human heart - the artist's profession!"
