Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto is a masterpiece of music history and will be performed by a world-class international trio: Japanese-American violinist Karen Gomyo, German-Japanese cellist Danjulo Ishizaka and Austrian pianist Markus Schrimer. Conducting the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg for the first time is the renowned Finnish-Russian maestro Dima Slobodeniouk. Beethoven’s concerto is framed by masterpieces from Finland. Einojuhani Rautavaara, arguably the most famous successor to Jean Sibelius, traces a moving myth of his homeland in captivating tones. The program concludes with Jean Sibelius’s “Second,” his most successful symphony, full of enchanting natural moods and imbued with the visionary spirit of freedom of a people living under dictatorial foreign rule.
