Bruckner's Romantic Symphony

The Bruckner Orchestra Linz will guest with a large symphonic repertoire under its principal conductor Markus Poschner. Anton Bruckner's "Fourth" is the only one of his symphonies to which a programme has been transmitted, full of romantic motifs. At the beginning knights gather in the morning square in front of the city walls, the Scherzo of course has something to do with hunting and horns and at the end there should be festive joy.

ANTON BRUCKNER
Symphony No. 4, E flat major, WAB 104
"The Romantic" (version 1888)

Bruckner Orchestra Linz
Markus Poschner Conductor
Martin Grubinger percussion instrument

The unique Martin Grubinger plays the brilliant percussion concerto of the Finn Kalevi Aho, born in 1949, who is an original polystilist in the succession of Mahler and Schnittke. The title "Sieidi" means "place of worship". A ritual of extremes, a dance on a volcano. The soloist is the shaman of this exciting celebration of sounds that ends in silence. The Bruckner Orchestra Linz performs with a large symphonic repertoire under its principal conductor Markus Poschner. Anton Bruckner's "Fourth" is the only one of his symphonies to which a programme has been transmitted, full of romantic motifs. At the beginning knights gather in the morning square in front of the city walls, the Scherzo has something to do with hunting and horns, of course, and at the end there should be festive joy. But Bruckner's imagination is stronger than all programmes and creates spaces that breathe far and wide, in which one can find one's own dreams.
