Whether fate knocks at the gates or not, Ludwig van Beethoven's "Fifth" is one of the most frequently performed symphonies of all time. Unbeatable in terms of drama, carried by revolutionary ideas and blessed with grandiose motifs, it is one of the absolute highlights of "Viennese Classicism". One of the leading orchestras in the Netherlands, the one from Den Haag, is conducted by the successful young German conductor Ruth Reinhardt, who will make her debut in Salzburg with this program. The wondrously magical "Melusine" overture by Felix Mendelssohn will open the program. Sergei Prokofiev, also a pianist of distinction, premiered his classical and melodious 3rd Piano Concerto himself in Chicago in 1921. Now the British pianist Isata Kenneth-Mason, one of the most remarkable pianists of the younger generation, sits at the piano.
