CAMILLA NYLUND Sopran

At the end of this varied concert evening stands one of the young Richard Strauss' inventive tone poems, "Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks", the Rondo "nach alter Schelmenweise", filled with instrumental wit and rousing color. This is a showpiece for a brilliant orchestra such as the Philharmonic Orchestra from Bergen in Norway and an "elder statesman" among the great conductors of our time, the British conductor Sir Mark Elder. Before that, Camilla Nylund, a soprano world star from Finland with a strong connection to her place of study, Salzburg, will exude the evening euphony of Strauss' "Four Last Songs". In contrast, the 3rd Symphony by Jean Sibelius is a rarely heard, masterful, original and emphatically rhythmic excursion into neoclassicism by the great Finn, yet unmistakable in its folkloristic background.
