LEONIDAS KAVAKOS Violin

The Greek Leonidas Kavakos is one of the great violin virtuosos of our time and is back in Salzburg after a long time with one of the most romantic of all romantic violin concertos, that of Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowsky, which once had its premiere in Vienna, acclaimed by the audience as well as being controversial in the press. It is pleasing that women on the podium are no longer exceptions today. The young high-flyer Marie Jacquot from France is the designated music director of the Royal Danish Opera and leads the Vienna Symphony. Erich Wolfgang Korngold wrote his first major symphonic work at the age of fifteen and modestly called it "Sinfonietta", although it lasts more than 40 minutes. Richard Strauss sat enthusiastically next to the young colleague at the Viennese premiere and later conducted the piece in Berlin. With somnambulistic certainty, the young man had found his own style and the soaring "motive of the merry heart" that accompanied him throughout his life.
