Salzburger Straßentheater 2020

After the long weeks without cultural enjoyment, the Salzburger Kulturvereinigung is setting a sign for the power of culture and is once again bringing a production of the Salzburg Street Theatre to the stage. This year the Salzburg Street Theatre will take place in a modified form. The originally planned 50th anniversary with "Der Diener zweier Herren" will be postponed to 2021 due to contact and performance restrictions. As an alternative, "Singen wir das Beste draus!" will be performed from July 15th to August 2nd, offering a play that provides retrospectives, outlooks and comments on the current situation. The exact date and location plan will be announced in mid-June.

"The street theatre comedians had truly imagined the 2020 anniversary season to be different," says Georg Clementi, artistic director of the Salzburg Street Theatre since 2016. Initiated and founded in 1970 by Oscar Fritz Schuh, the Salzburg Street Theatre quickly became a popular part of the Salzburg Summer of Culture. However, with the impact of COVID-19 on the cultural scene in 2020, the Salzburg Cultural Association and the artistic director of the Salzburg Street Theatre soon realised that a few changes would have to be made this year. "What should they do in these times of limited freedom of movement with their theatre wagon, with which they are used to overcome all borders, the borders of generations, the class borders, the state borders and sometimes the borders of good taste. What are they supposed to do with all these prohibitions, they who are used to defy all prohibitions, all prohibitions to think and all prohibitions to laugh. What are these public fanatics supposed to do with distance rules?" So Georg Clementi decided in the end: "Keep on doing as well as you can, keep on playing as well as you can, keep on laughing as well as you can, keep on bringing joy as well as you can, keep on singing as well as you can." The first stop and the premiere will be celebrated by the street theatre ensemble on 15 July at the Stiegl-Brauwelt in Salzburg. Also important is the implementation of the new framework for outdoor events by the Austrian Federal Government. With up to 500 counting cards, seating at a safe distance and seat assignments, the COVID security standards will be guaranteed for this summer's street theatre performances. Details on the issue of the counting cards will be announced with the schedule.
