Bruckner's Sixth

JOSEPH HAYDN
Symphony No. 104, D major "London"

ANTON BRUCKNER
Symphony No. 6, A major

MOZARTEUMORCHESTER SALZBURG
THOMAS HENGELBROCK Conductor

Like the following "Seventh", this symphony by Bruckner is only available in a single version. "Majestoso" - not maestoso! - wrote Bruckner about the first movement of his "Sixth", which he whimsically called his "Keckste". The typical "Bruckner rhythm" dominates large parts of this impressive work, which was only performed in parts during the composer's lifetime. The Adagio was particularly popular, "a piece of the most solemn emotion and touching intimacy", as the Viennese critic Hans Paumgartner once noted. The Mozarteum Orchestra will be conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock, an interpreter of international stature, who will perform one of Joseph Haydn's spirited "London Symphonies" beforehand. The Salzburg orchestra not only has a Mozart tradition, but has also had a Bruckner tradition since around 1900, which has become very lively again in the last 20 years.
